One of our Buzzwords: Intentionality

One of the business principles that Capstone highly values is to do well what you plan to do well, and let someone else do the rest. This is one of the driving forces behind our strategic consulting practice. Most businesses don't want to be experts in information technology. This is why Capstone Consulting offers strategic advisory services to our customers. If marketing or insurance or manufacturing is your game, then let us be the experts in IT who stand behind you and make you successful. IT is all we do. Let us do that well, so that you can focus on your primary mission.

This kind of help can take on many forms. Perhaps it's development staff augmentation - filling in a missing skillset on your internal IT team. Perhaps it's architectural oversight - providing needed technical leadership and direction at the enterprise, project, or application level. It could mean program management - taking the organizational and process leadership for a mission-critical initiative you're spinning up to advance your business. Or maybe it's managed software services - offloading the support of non-critical applications and environments so you can focus on innovation. Trusted Advisor

Each of these offerings, though quite different in their execution, boil down to a single guiding principle: intentionality. Doing what you do on purpose and leaving the rest to someone else. This is the foundation of Capstone's advisory services offering.

Capstone can be a Trusted Advisor

Capstone's advisory services are about being a trusted advisor to the leadership in your organization. Capstone has a long history of standing behind our customers — to remain somewhat invisible to the outside world while being an invaluable resource to provide counsel, collaborate on ideas, be a sounding board, etc. Principal Consultants from Capstone's Strategic IT Consulting practice have walked alongside countless C-level executives, IT Directors, Project and Program Managers ... all with a single purpose: to advise them on the best use of information technology in their organization to maximize their return on investment in IT and to drive business value.

We view our relationships with our customers as partnerships. We are focused on your success. Capstone desires to stand behind you and serve as a resource to help ensure the success of the initiatives which are the most important to you. Our standard approach to this kind of partnership is to make our customers successful in the eyes of their customers, colleagues, and constituents. We have experienced a great deal of success being somewhat invisible to the outside world, yet invaluable to a CIO or initiative sponsor as a resource from whom they seek advice, solicit feedback, or brainstorm ideas. From this supportive position, Capstone consultants can advise you on the best course of action, make observations and recommendations from our experience and expertise, help you prove out ideas before they are debuted to the outside world, etc.

Capstone Consulting Units

One approach to gaining access to Capstone consultants as strategic advisors is "Capstone Consulting Units", or "CCUs". Capstone offers CCUs to customers as a mechanism for retaining Capstone services for a specific purpose. CCUs are equivalent to one hour of consulting services at a negotiated rate. CCUs are pre-purchased, cannot be cancelled, and are consumed as needed by mutual agreement between Capstone and the customer.

An Example: The Entrepreneur's Wingman

Take, for example, the small media startup company created by a serial entrepreneur. This innovative leader is a business person with a new vision for advertising in the 21st century. She is not a technology expert, nor does she want to be. But as she develops her business plan, builds a case for funding, and begins to establish her offering, she needs IT support — to know how to best leverage technology to maximize her chances of success.

Some day, this burgeoning CEO will hire a CIO and an entire IT staff, but that day is still far away. She needs IT experts to guide her from inception to the day when an in-house technology staff makes her far more self-sufficient. Capstone can help her build that bridge. In the beginning, she contracts 200 CCU's with Capstone for advisory services. Between 30 minute checkpoint phone conversations, a small set of two-day research projects, and a number of all day planning sessions, these provide her with critical support for the better part of six months. Now, with her first round of funding secured, she brings a Capstone Principal Consultant on full time to plan the details of the IT side of the house, and Capstone helps her hire her first IT Director. She will always know that Capstone is there to provide architectural oversight, strategic mentoring, implementation services, or managed software services ... whatever her growing business needs to allow her to focus on her business, not its supporting technology.
